Margarita Gluzberg: The Captive Bird Society for the official contemporary art programme at the Nuit Blanche, Paris

For Nuit Blanche 2009 in the courtyard of the Ecole Normale Superieure, Margarita Gluzberg presents her performance "Captive Bird Society (2009)" recently conducted for the MAC / VAL. Over the years, the artist has assembled a collection of original vinyl (78 rpm) made by the composer Carl Reich from bird songs. Before making such recordings from his own aviary, Carl Reich was interested in the canaries imitating the nightingale sounds, striving to combine these soundtracks to popular melodies. Juggling between six turntables, the artist will engage in live performance where she herself selects and passes the records, gradually setting up a presence and an exploding poetic sound.
